FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 36 ranked Columbia men’s tennis team was in action for the second time in as many days Wednesday, challenging No. 36 Texas Christian in Fort Worth, Texas. The Lions battled tough against the Horned Frogs, but were not able to come away with the win, as TCU knocked off Columbia, 5-2.

TCU got out to an early lead, winning the No. 2 and 3 matches in doubles to take the point. Columbia’s top doubles tandem of Ashok Narayana and Max Schnur, the 24th-ranked team in the nation, were leading 6-4 in the No. 1 match when play was called.

The Horned Frogs went up 2-0 on the Lions with a victory in the No. 4 singles match, but the Lions bounced back by capturing the No. 3 match. Narayana downed Facundo Lugones in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, to get Columbia within one.

The No. 6 match went in favor of the Horned Frogs to give them back their two-point lead. Bert Vancura closed the deficit back to one for Columbia with a win the No. 5 match. Going up against Rodolfo Bustamante, Vancura cruised through the first set, 6-2, and then willed his way to a 7-6(5) win in the second set.

Unfortunately, the Horned Frogs would close out the match with wins in the top two singles matches to secure the 5-2 win.

Columbia will close out its spring break trip through Texas on Friday with a match at UT-Arlington. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
