Coach Mangurian on Spears: Big WR/TE prospect. Can play on the LOS or split away in the slot. Deceptive speed due to stride. Judges the deep ball well. Shows good feet and hands on shorter routes. A lot of big plays in high school on the deep vertical routes, gets separation, good leaping and catches the ball in his hands. Needs to improve as an in-line blocker. Needs to improve strength in order to escape the jam at the LOS. Match up problem for a defense.

HIGH SCHOOL: Attended Bishop Heelan High School in Sioux City, Iowa ... Played for head coach Roger Jansen … 2011 and 2012 All-district … 2012 all-state second-team … Also lettered in baseball and basketball.
