BEDMINSTER, N.J. – Michelle Piyapattra tied for eighth place in the individual standings while the Columbia women’s golf team is fourth in the team standings on Friday following the first day of the 2013 Ivy League Golf Championships at Trump National Golf Club.

Defending champion Harvard led the way with a team score of 304, followed by Princeton (307), Penn (310), Columbia (313), Yale (317), Brown (323) and Dartmouth (335).

Piyapattra, the 2011 individual champion and reigning Ivy League Player of the Year, led the Lions with a 77, as Columbia’s top four scorers all finished under 80, marking the only team to do so.

After finishing the front nine with a three over par at 39, Piyapattra double bogeyed hole 10 before responding with five pars and back-to-back birdies on holes 14 and 15 to finish the day 39-38-77 in a tie for eighth.

Lilette Mocio carded a six over par 39-39--78 to end the day tied for 13th place. Mocio came out strong with a birdie on hole three, going one under par through the first four but bogeyed the next four holes to finish three over on the front nine. She responded with another pair of birdies but also recorded another six bogies on the day.

Both Monique Ishikawa and Jane Dong finished the day seven over par at 40-39--79 to tie for 15th place. Spenser Krut carded a 12 over par 43-41--84 to close out day one tied for 25th.

The second round of the tournament gets underway tomorrow, April 27. Action is set to begin at 11:30 a.m. with Brown and Dartmouth teeing off first, followed by Columbia and Yale at 12:15 p.m. Harvard, Penn and Princeton will tee off at 1:00 p.m.
