NEW YORK - The Columbia volleyball team returns to the Big Apple to kick off the 2013 home season when the Lions host the Columbia Invitational at Levien Gymnasium this Friday, September 13, and Saturday, September 14. The six-match tournament will include Binghamton, Boston College and Fordham.

Columbia is in search of its first win after dropping its first three matches of the season at the Wildcat Challenge last weekend. The Lions fell to host Northwestern, Boise State and Belmont to fall to 0-3.

Sophomore Atlanta Moye-McLaren has had a strong start to the year. The outside hitter recorded her first double-double of the season as she led the Lions with 12 kills and 18 digs versus Belmont. Throughout the two-day invite, Moye-McLaren tallied 33 kills and 28 digs, swinging at a .235 mark and earning a spot on the All-Tournament team.

Junior defensive specialist Molly Winger holds a team-best 40 digs (3.33 digs/set). First-year Jennifer Petrovich has recorded 90 assists (7.50/set) in her impressive debut for the Lions.

Columbia holds a 2-0 record over Binghamton, with their most recent win happening in the 2011 Columbia Invitational in Levien Gym.

The Bearcats are winless at 0-6 on the season, off to the worst start in program history. Grace Vickers has played in all six matches and leads Binghamton with 53 kills (2.41 kills/set), and a .207 hitting percentage. Xiomara Ortiz has bumped a team-best 3.82 digs/set, while Amanda Dettmann is the leading setter with 7.50 assists/set.

The Lions and Eagles also dueled in 2011, marking the only meeting between the teams. Boston College edged Columbia in a five-set victory in the final game at the University of Rhode Island Tournament.

Boston College is off to a 5-2 mark this year after recently hosting and winning its own Boston College Invitational last weekend. Katty Workman boosted the team to an undefeated 3-0 stretch at the tournament, totaling a match-high 22 kills in the championship match against Hampton and earning All-Tournament MVP honors. Overall this season, Workman has posted 4.69 kills/set on a .255 hitting percentage.

Madisen Lydon leads the Eagles with 4.33 digs/set, while Melissa McTighe is averaging just under one block per set with 24 total overall.

Columbia leads the all-time series over Fordham, 6-5. The teams last played in 2007 with the Rams pulling off a 3-0 win.

This year, Fordham has posted a 5-3 record, winning four out of its last five matches. Most recently, the Rams defeated Hofstra 3-1 in their home opener.

Leading the way offensively is Lisa Hipp with 3.29 kills/set. Sara Konkel has recorded 9.35 assists/set, while Maria Rodenberg has accumulated 17 service aces to go with a team-high 3.36 digs/set.
