Jesse Foglia joined head coach Nich Lee Parker's staff as an assistant coach in September of 2013.

“We needed a very specific coach for this role,” stated Parker. “Jesse is a student of the sport and his background shows that he understands not only how to create successful crews, but also shape sustainable programs.”

Foglia has helped lead the Lions to two of their most successful seasons in program history with includes an IRA Gold (4+ 2014), two Eastern Sprints Golds (JV 2014, 3V 2014), two IRA Silvers ( V8+ 2015, V4+ 2015) and an IRA Bronze (V8+ 2014). The 2015 campaign was topped off with a semifinal performance at the Henley Royal Regatta in England.  

Foglia came to Morningside Heights after spending two years as the assistant coach and men’s recruiting coordinator for Bates College in Lewiston, Maine from 2011-13. While assisting head coach Peter Steenstra at Bates, the program set a new standard in performance with a banner years for both the men’s and women’s teams. Highlights included a second place finish in the men’s varsity 8+ at the 2012 ECAC Regatta, a NERC Championship in the men’s novice 4+ in 2013 and, two NCAA runner up finishes. In addition to the teams on water performance, Foglia more than doubled the size of the men’s team by brining in the two largest and most talented recruiting classes in program history.

Outside of his time working at Bates, Jesse spent the seven years as a member of the U.S. Men’s Junior National Team Coaching Staff. He began working alongside Parker as an assistant in 2009 for the Junior Men’s Development Team training out of Three Rivers Rowing in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In the summer of 2015 he coached the Men’s 4+ to a 4th place finish at the Junior World Championships in Rio De Janeiro, as well as seeing the 4- finish 5th and the 8+ take silver.

A member of the inaugural Joy Of Sculling Apprenticeship program, Foglia has been mentored by some of the best minds in the sport including Paul Thompson, head women’s coach of Great Britain, and Volker Nolte. Jesse began his coaching career at Fox Chapel High School in 2005, as the men’s varsity coach.

A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Foglia is a 2009 graduate of Duquesne University with a degree in Education.
