TULSA, Okla. – The Columbia men’s tennis team advanced players in both singles and doubles to the round of 16 for the first time in program history at the 2013 Saint Francis ITA All-American Championships on Thursday.
No. 54 Winston Lin played his way to the round of 16 in the singles main draw, while the duo of Ashok Narayana and Max Schnur advanced in the doubles main draw, defeating some of the top players in the nation.
Lin toppled No. 49 Raphael Hemmeler from Duke, 6-1, 6-2, in the round of 64. He continued his strong play in the round of 32 with a thrilling tiebreaking victory over No. 80 Michael Grant of USC, 603, 2-6, 7-6(4).
In doubles action, Narayana/Schnur beat the doubles team of Alejandro Espejo and Dylan McCloskey of Tulsa, 8-3. The pair will face Mitchell Frank and Mac Styslinger of Virginia in the round of 16, slated to begin Friday.
