NEW YORK - The Columbia women's tennis team will be in action this weekend at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center as part of the USTA Women's College Invitational in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. from Oct. 11-13.

The USTA BJK NTC Women's College Invitational represents the fourth tournament of the fall season for Columbia. The Lions opened the season by hosting the Columbia Invitational Sept. 13-15, and continued with the Cissie Leary Invitational in Philadelphia, Pa. and the Atlanta Classic at Georgia State.

Most recently, Bianca Sanon and Kanika Vaidya competed at the 2013 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships. The 29th-ranked duo stunned the No. 6 doubles team in the nation to advance to the quarterfinals of the main doubles draw, defeating No. 6 Courtney Colton and Lauren Mira of Vanderbilt with a convincing 8-2 victory. In singles action, No. 104 Sanon played her way past the first two rounds in the singles qualifying draw, while Vaidya reached the round of 16 in the pre-qualifying singles draw.

Last season at the USTA Billie Jean Invitational, the Lions had four singles players reach the finals of their respective draws, but were unable to come away with a title. Vaidya, Sanon, Crystal Leung and Amy Li all advanced from the round of 16 to the finals, winning three matches over the course of the weekend.

Action begins Friday at the National Tennis Center and continues through Sunday.
