NEW YORK - On the heels of strong performances at the ITA Northeast Regionals, women's tennis sophomore Kanika Vaidya and men's tennis junior Winston Lin have been named Columbia's Student-Athletes of the Month for October.

Vaidya, a four-seed going into the event, won five matches and topped her own doubles teammate, Bianca Sanon, in the finals to earn the singles title. The duo of Viadya and Sanon also performed well in the pair's portion of the competition, winning three matches to set up a final against teammates Tina Jian and Crystal Leung.

Lin also captured the singles title in the main's main draw, defeating six opponents to earn the crown. The No. 54 ranked player in the nation, Lin also had a successful showing at the Saint Francis ITA All-American Championships, topping nationally ranked foes from Duke and USC.

Both players will compete next week at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
