LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Columbia men’s swimming & diving are off to an impressive start in 2014 after collecting another non-conference win on the season at Bucknell on Saturday, Jan. 4. The Lions took 11 of 16 events to defeat the Bison 172 -127 as they jump to a 3-2 overall dual-meet record.

Micah Rembrandt had a big day on the boards for Columbia to lead the diving core. The junior grabbed victories in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. Rembrandt tallied a total of 292.70 in the 1-meter dive and followed with a top score of 293.40 in the 3-meter dive.

The Lions had strong performances in the 200 freestyle and the 100 backstroke with 1-2-3 sweeps. Terry Li won the 200 free hitting the wall in a time of 1:43.49. Alex Mango followed in second place at 1:43.92 and Nikita Bondarenko in third place at 1:45.55. In the 100 back, Benjamin Xu took first place with a time of 51.86, Thomas Norman finished runner-up at 52.06 and Michael Fox-Moles took third place with a time of 52.15.

Stanley Wong added a victory in the 100 breast clocking in with a time of 57.48 and Alex Ngan edged teammate Philipp Gaissert to take the 50 freestyle. Ngan finished with the winning time of 21.24 and Gaissert was close behind at 21.33.

David Jakl continued his dominace this season in the 100 butterfly with a win at 49.74. The 100 freestyle went to senior Eric Traub at 46.89 and Norman took the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:53.57.

The quartet of Fox-Moles, Wong, Jakl and Ngan were strong in the 200 medley relay combining for a first-place time of 1:32.46.

The 3-2 Lions will be back in action at home on Saturday, Jan. 18 as they host Cornell at 3 p.m. in Uris Pool.
