Bradford, Binder Earn Weekly CSM & Ivy League Honors
PRINCETON, N.J. and NEW YORK – After leading the Columbia women’s basketball team to an Ivy League victory over Cornell Saturday, senior Courtney Bradford has been named the conference Player of the Week by College Sports Madness and first-year Carolyn Binder has earned her third Ancient Eight Rookie of the Week honor.
Bradford earns the first weekly honor for a Columbia player this season from CSM, after finishing just one point shy of her second double-double of the year. The Alpharetta, Ga., native finished with 11 boards, six more than any other player on the court Saturday, and nine points on 2-of-4 shooting and a 5-of-5 performance from the free throw line.
In 18 minutes of action, Binder posted a team-high 16 points, dazzling the home crowd Saturday with four 3-pointers. The Scarsdale, N.Y., native finished the game 5-of-8 from the field and her trey with just over five minutes to play gave Columbia a lead it would not relinquish against the Big Red. Her third Rookie of the Week accolade is the most for a Lion since Lauren Dwyer earned the award four times in 2007-08.
Columbia and Cornell square off again this Saturday in Ithaca, N.Y. with tip-off slated for 2:30 p.m. Fans can watch the remainder of the Lions’ Ivy League schedule on the Ivy League Digital Network.
