New York- The No. 57 women’s tennis team will travel to Durham, N.C. to compete in the ITA Kick-off Weekend, with host No. 10 Duke on Friday, Jan. 24 and No. 42 Kentucky or No. 53 Tulane on Saturday, Jan. 25.
The No. 57 Lions have yet to play in the spring season, but had a strong fall season taking the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Champions in both singles and doubles. The Lions bring two ITA ranked singles players to North Carolina, No. 75 Kanika Vaidya and No. 101 Bianca Sanon. Teammates Crystal Leung and Tina Jiang take the No. 20 spot in the ITA doubles rankings. Sanon and Vaidya are also ranked as a doubles pair at No. 24.
Host No. 10 Duke has a set of players in the ITA singles rankings, including No. 3 Beatrice Capra. Capra won the singles consolation round at the 2013 USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships. No. 45 Ester Goldfeld is ranked not only as a singles player and as a part of two doubles pairs with Annie Mulholland at No. 14 and with Marianne Jodoin at No. 27.
No. 42 Kentucky had a strong fall season with sophomore No. 108 Nadia Ravita earning an at-large bid to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships. The Wildcats took down Cincinnati and Ball State over the weekend, giving them energy coming into ITA play.
No. 57 Tulane has an experienced team, returning six players from last year. The Green Wave is coming off a near sweep of Southern Mississippi this past weekend, where five singles matches were won in straight sets.
Duke will provide live stats and live video for the event. Live stats will be available for all the matches; however live video will only be available for matches against Duke.
