NEW YORK – Fresh off winning the 2014 ECAC Indoor Championships, the No. 34 Columbia men’s tennis team will host St. John’s this Saturday at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center. The match versus the Red Storm is a recent addition to the schedule and will begin at 1:30 p.m.
The Lions faced a trio of Ivy League foes at the ECAC Championships, defeating No. 55 Princeton, No. 63 Dartmouth and No. 25 Harvard to claim the title. Columbia is now 8-1 on the season, having won six straight matches, four by shutout.
Ashok Narayana and Max Schnur have moved into the top-10 of the most recent ITA doubles rankings released on Feb. 11 at No. 10 in the nation. On the singles side, junior Winston Lin is holding down the No. 11 ranking, while Narayana moved into the top-100 at No. 97.
St. John’s is an even 2-2 through the early portion of its spring schedule. The Red Storm will host Illinois State on Friday, Feb. 21 before making the short journey to Manhattan on Saturday to face the Lions. Of the four matches that the Red Storm have competed, three have come down to a 4-3 decision. William and Mary and DePaul each fell to St. John’s by one point, but George Washington edged the Red Storm in its more recent match on Feb. 9.
Vaidik Munshaw is the lone St. John’s player with a winning record at 3-1, splitting matches at the No. 4 and 6 spots. Lucas Hejhal is 2-2 also splitting time at No. 4 and 6, while Erick Reyes is 2-2 at the No. 2 position.
