INDIANPOLIS – A fourth member of the Columbia wrestling team will be making the journey to Oklahoma City next week, as 174-pounder Shane Hughes earned an at-large bid to the 2014 NCAA Wrestling Championships, as announced by the NCAA Wednesday afternoon.

The NCAA began the process of revealing the 330 qualifiers at all 10 weight classes at 1 p.m. with a new weight class being announced every half hour. Fans can find the schedule and follow the selections here, leading to a live “selection show” at 6 p.m. that will reveal the seeds and brackets for the tournament that begins next Thursday, March 20.

Hughes reached the semifinals of the EIWA Championships, but was unable to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships, as he battled an injury for most of the conference tournament last weekend. He stands at 22-8 on the year with seven pins and five major decisions. His 5-0 record in conference bouts earned him a first team All-Ivy League selection.

Hughes joins Columbia’s automatic qualifiers, Markus Scheidel (157), Josh Houldsworth (165) and Zack Hernandez (184) who each punched tickets with automatic bids at the EIWA Championships.
