KANE’OHE, O’ahu – Led by an 18th-place finish from first-year Jackie Chulya, the Columbia women’s golf team captured ninth at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Hawai’I on Wednesday.

Chulya and senior Michelle Piyapattra each shot a 78 in the final round to finish in the top-25 on the individual leaderboard. The rookie edged the veteran by just one stroke (78-71-78—227) to finish tied for 18th, while Piyapattra claimed a tie for 22nd (72-78-78—228).

Sophomore Monique Ishikawa concluded the 54-hole tournament in a tie for 36th after shooting a third round score of 80. First-year Camilla Vik ended the event tied for 53rd after shooting an 82 on Wednesday, while classmate Rachel Shi recorded her best round of the tournament, six-over 78, to finish tied for 60th.

Playing as an individual, Lisa Combs had the best score of any Columbia golfer on the day, notching a two-over 74 to also finish tied for 18th, improving from 31st where she start the round.

The Lions return to action on the main land on Monday, March 17 when they begin play at the Drake Invitational at the Delmonte Golf Course in Pacific Grove, Calif.
