ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – John Gregorek put on a fantastic performance on Friday, March 14 to kick-off the 2014 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Champions, earning a trip to the championship finals of the one-mile run with a top-five finish in the semi-finals.
Gregorek clocked in with a time of 4:04.36 for third place in Heat 1, and fifth place overall to advance to the finals Saturday afternoon. The senior will compete against the nation's top eight for a chance at the one-mile title at 8:00 p.m. ET.
Day one for Columbia at the Albuquerque Convention Center also saw a top-five performance from the men’s distance medley relay squad. The quartet of Brendon Fish, Noah Lartigue, Harrison McFann and Daniel Everett combined for a time of 9:42.48 for fifth place overall in the championship finals. The squad is the first to earn All-America honors thus far for Columbia.
Stay tuned for the final day of action on Saturday, March 15 as Nadia Eke will compete in the women’s triple jump at 8:00 p.m. The Ghana native, stamped her qualifying mark for the national championships in a program-record performance at the Ivy League Championships a couple weeks ago with a leap of 13.09m. Eke captured the conference title and became the first Lion to surpass the 13-meter mark. The junior’s measure stands 11th-best in the nation this year.
