 NEW YORK  - On Wednesday, April 9, the Columbia women’s lacrosse team will hosts its first non-conference game since its season opener at Robert K. Kraft Field at 5 p.m., against UMBC.  The Lions are 3-1 overall in non-conference play this season and will look for its second straight victory against the Retrievers.

For the first time in program history, Columbia held its opponent scoreless to come away with a shutout victory on the road on Sunday, March 30 at Mount St. Mary’s. The Lions put together one of its best performances on the year grabbing an 11-0 win over the Mount.

Columbia saw scores from six different players, highlighted by a career day from Jessie Ambrose. The sophomore led the offense with a career-high six points behind a hat trick and a season-high three assist.

The Lions’ defense remained in high form throughout the day to record his first shutout victory. The defense caused 15 turnovers and goalkeeper Colleen Packer made a total of seven saves in goal. The squad was aggressive from the starting draw, including five ground-balls from both Paige Cuscovitch and Taylor Quinn. Quinn also tallied a game-high six draw controls.

In the Ivy League Weekly performance released on March 31, the Lions posted a pair of selections to the honor roll. Cuscovitch earned her third weekly honor of the season, while Collen Packer garnered her first behind their impressive play in the win over Mount St. Mary’s.

Cuscovitch scored three points against Cornell on Saturday, March 8, including a goal and a pair of assists, to join the programs prestigious 100 career-points club. Cuscovitch became the 11th player to reach the 100 mark and with a new career total of 114 through eight games, she ranks ninth all-time.

Through eight games, Columbia has two players that hold national top-20 rankings in separate categories. With an average of 3.50 ground balls,  first-year Taylor Quinn stands No. 4 with a season team-high total of 28. Lexi Mazur also stands among the best in the nation in caused turnovers with an average of 1.88 caused turnovers per game for 18th best in the country.

The Retrievers hold a 5-6 record on the season having dropped their last two outings. After a three-game winning streak that began at Mount St. Mary’s, UMBC has scored a total of three goals in its last two games to drop below .500. The UMBC offense is led by junior Abby Wilson who has a season team-high 22 points, including 12 goals and 10 assists
