Sheila Roux Promoted to Women’s Basketball Associate Head Coach

NEW YORK – Head women’s basketball coach Stephanie Glance has announced the promotion of Sheila Roux to associate head coach of Columbia’s women’s basketball program.

Roux recently completed her first season as the Lions assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, but has worked for coach Glance for the past four years. Prior to joining coach Glance on the Columbia staff last year, she was the top assistant for a very successful Illinois State team for three seasons.

“Sheila is certainly deserving of the title change of associate head coach,” commented Glance. “She has been a tremendous asset to me over the past four years. She has a passion for coaching and understands every aspect of what it takes to have a successful program. She excels in all that she does and strives for a standard of excellence everyday!”

With Roux on the sidelines, Illinois State posted three straight 19-plus win seasons and made three trips to the WNIT, including a semifinals appearance in 2010-11.

A stand-out player at Minnesota-Crookston, Roux has been in coaching since graduating in 2000. Her early coaching stops included two stints with her alma mater, a graduate assistantship at South Dakota State and a four-year position as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Wisconsin-Milwaukee, before coaching at Illinois State in the same capacity.

Roux has been integral in the renewed energy surrounding Columbia women’s basketball. In her first season in Morningside Heights, she coached the conference leader in minutes played, Taylor Ward, while first-years Carolyn Binder and Tori Oliver earned four Ivy League Rookie of the Week accolades.

“In just one year at Columbia, she has made a huge impact on our current players and has done an outstanding job recruiting a new class of first year student athletes who will arrive in September,” said Glance. “Sheila is an excellent teacher of the game, a top-notch recruiter, and a true team player in every aspect of the word!”
