DIRECTIONS TO MERCER LAKE/CASPERSEN ROWING CENTER
NEW YORK – The heavyweight rowing team returns to action this Sunday, May 4 when they race Navy for the Maxwell Stevenson Cup along with George Washington and FIT, who will join the regatta as guests. The racing will now take place on Mercer Lake in West Windsor Township, New Jersey instead of Lake Carnegie due to flooding damaging the race course in Princeton.
SETTING THE SCENE
The Midshipmen used a strong start and never really looked back to claim the Stevenson Cup last season. The Colonials finished third at the event.
The Lions just missed out claiming the Doc Lusins Trophy last Saturday, pulling in just 1.7 seconds behind Boston Unversity on Onondaga Lake in Syracuse, N.Y. Columbia will be in search of its first victory since its Apr. 5 win over Dartmouth.
The Midshipmen check in at No. 8 in the USRowing Collegiate Polls. Last week on the Schuykill River, Navy’s top boat placed second to Harvard by less than three seconds and edged out Penn in the Adams Cup regatta for its fifth varsity eight triumph of the year.
GEORGE WASHINGTON’S STATUS
The No. 18 Colonials have won 21 consecutive races, which dates back to a two-day, nine-race sweep at the GW Invitational on Apr. 11-12. George Washington swept four races with Rutgers and Georgetown.
The Panthers are coming off a silver medal performance at the South Region Championships on Apr. 19. Florida Tech has only competed in one head-to-head event in early March.
