Women's Soccer Announces Incoming Class For 2014 Season

NEW YORK - Columbia women's soccer head coach Tracey Bartholomew has announced eight student-athletes that will join the team for the upcoming 2014 season.

Joining the Lions are:

Natalie Ambrose
Hometown: Sisters, Oregon
High School: Sisters High School - Sisters, Oregon
Club Team(s): Oregon Rush/Oregon Bend FC Timbers, Colorado Rush ECNL

Ambrose was a four-year soccer letterwinner and a four-time Sky Em League first team honoree throughout her career at Sisters High School. The fast midfielder led the Outlaws to four straight Sky Em League Championships and two Oregon State 4A Championship appearances in 2010 and 2011. She was named Player of the Game in both state finals appearances to aid her career three-time all-state selections.  The TopDrawer four-star player tallied a career total of 81 goals and 34 assists, including a season-high 27 goals and 12 assists her senior season. The class of 2014 valedictorian was a model student-athlete on and off the pitch.

As member of the Oregon Rush club team, Ambrose is a two-time State Cup Champion taking back-to-back titles in 2011 and 2012.  She also was a member of the Colorado Rush who captured the Manchester Cup and Gothia Cup in Gothenberg, Sweden in 2010. Ambrose was named Club Player of the Year in 2012-13.

Danielle Henry
Hometown: Jericho, New York
High School: The Hotchkiss School – Lakeville, Connecticut
Club Team: Albertson Fury

Henry made her impact on the pitch as a defender for the Hotchkiss Girls Varsity Soccer team. She helped her team to the WNEPSA Quaterfinals in 2013, following a semifinals appearance in 2012. Henry is known as a tough competitor. After an injury in Spring 2012, she battled back to play for Albertson Fury ECNL until the Fall of 2013, before having surgery in January.

Emily Johnson
Hometown: Bellevue, Washington
High School: Interlake High School – Bellevue, Washington
Club Team: Crossfire Premier

Johnson arrives to Columbia after compiling a successful high school career at both Forest Ridge and Interlake. She began at Forest Ridge where she was named the team MVP in 2011 and earned Emerald City League Rookie of the Year honors. Johnson went to be an instrumental part of the Interlake High School squad receiving team MVP honors in 2013.

The Washington native was also a member of the Crossfire Premier ’96 club team. The squad placed third overall at the Elite Club National League Championships in 2012.

Kerry Manion
Hometown: Westlake Village, California
High School: Oaks Christian School – Westlake Village, California
Club Team: Real So Cal

Manion was a four-time varsity soccer letterwinner at Oaks Christian School and team captain her senior season. Manion is a perennial winner with three Tri-Valley League Titles, three California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Division Championship Titles and the CIF SS State Championships in the three appearances. Her steady progression continued to show having garnered her first Tri-Valley first team nod in her junior season after receiving honorable mention in her freshman season and second team nod in her sophomore season.  As a junior she was also named Oak Christian’s Team Defensive MVP. Manion capped her career with an impressive senior campaign.  She repeated as a Tri-Valley first team selection, made first team All-CIF, first team Ventura All-County, first team LA Daily News All-Area and was named CIF Player of the year.

The four-time Oaks Christian scholar-athlete also competes with one of the best club teams in the country in Real So Cal. The squad won the 2013 San Diego Surf Cup, is currently in the top spot in the ECNL southwest conference and tied for first in the nation.

Caroline Militello
Hometown: Hong Kong, China
High School: Mary Institute & St. Louis Country Day School – St. Louis, Missouri
Club Team: Lou Fusz Wipke

Militello was a two-sport athlete in basketball and soccer at MICDS, earning varsity letters all four years in both sports. In her rookie season she led the Rams on the pitch in goals with 10 and points with 22.  With a big jump to 23 goals, 26 assists and 72 points in her sophomore, she continued to be the team’s biggest offense threat leading the team in all three categories throughout her career. In 2013, Militello was named Metro League Player of the Year leading the team to its best record in school history at 17-5.

The Tokyo, Japan born midfielder has also played for the Lou Fusz Wipke club team of the US Youth Soccer Association. The team is four-time state cup champions, regional champions in 2011 and won the National League Championship in 2013.

Holly Neshat
Hometown: San Diego, California
High School: Scripps Ranch High School – San Diego, California
Club Team: San Diego Surf

This four-year soccer letterwinner was a two-sport athlete at Scripps Ranch High School, including two letters in track. Neshat was the team’s best midfielder as an upperclassman earning All-League honors in her junior and senior seasons. She was named Rookie of The Year in here freshman season as well. Aided the Falcons to a San Diego CIF Championship finals appearance.

Natalie Neshat
Hometown: San Diego, California
High School: Scripps Ranch High School – San Diego, California
Club Team: San Diego Surf

The three-sport athlete in soccer, track and volleyball, was a four-time letterwinner on the pitch. The two-time team captain earned first team all-league honors in her junior season. Aided the Falcons to a San Diego CIF Championship finals appearance. Neshat also garnered back-to-back all-academic Team awards in her junior and senior seasons. The California native will join twin sister Holly Neshat on the pitch in Columbia’s 2014 campaign.

Dina Sheira
Hometown: St. Morris Plains, New Jersey
High School: Whippany Park High School – Whippany, New Jersey
Club Team: Match Fit Academy

Sheira was model of consistency throughout her career at Whippany Park High School. The four-year soccer letterwinner is a four-time all-conference selection and a three time all-county selection. Sheira was impressive on and off the field earning Academic Distinguished Honors in all four years and capped her high school academic success as the class Salutatorian.
