Scally Named Associate Athletics Director for Intercollegiate Sports Programs

Matthew Scally, former Associate Athletics Director and Director of Compliance at Long Island University Brooklyn, has been named Associate Athletics Director for Intercollegiate Sports Programs at Columbia University, Dr. M. Dianne Murphy, Director Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education announced today.

“We are thrilled to welcome Matthew to the Columbia Athletics program,” Murphy said.  “Matthew is a New York native that has a great variety of experience in collegiate athletics and in higher education.  He has a skill set that will allow him make a seamless transition to working with our varsity sports programs.  We are very excited for him to join our staff.”

As Associate Athletic Director and Director of Compliance at LIU Brooklyn, Scally was responsible for working closely with both the director of athletics and the senior woman administrator to ensure compliance in the Northeast Conference and the NCAA.

At Columbia, Scally will have oversight of Volleyball, Wrestling, Men and Women’s Swimming and Diving, Men’s Heavyweight Rowing, Lightweight Rowing and Women’s Rowing and Lacrosse.

“I am thrilled to join Columbia Athletics.  I want to thank Dr. [Dianne] Murphy and the search committee for giving me the opportunity to join one of the most prestigious universities in the country,” Scally said.   “I have met many amazing people through this process and look forward to contributing to the continued success of Columbia Athletics.”

Scally arrived at LIU in 1992 as the Assistant Director of Admissions. The Brooklyn native then moved to the College of Pharmacy as the director of advisement before joining the athletic department in January 1999 as academic coordinator. Through the years he has served on a number of LIU, NEC and NCAA committees and currently serves on the NCAA waiver committee.

He has also served as a member of the NCAA Peer Review Team, which evaluates colleges and universities in the NCAA Certification process.

Scally earned a Bachelor of Science degree in athletic administration from St. John’s in 1991. He completed his master’s degree in guidance and counseling from LIU Brooklyn in 1997.
