Robert (Bob) Gilmartin begins his fourth year at Columbia University as its Director of Sports Performance for Football. He began his duties in April 2014.
In his role, Gilmartin serves as the head strength and conditioning coach of football, where he designs and implements a comprehensive sports performance program.
Gilmartin spent 11 years at Rutgers, working as the assistant strength and conditioning coach for the football team and head strength coach for other varsity programs including swimming and diving, men's soccer, wrestling, field hockey and lacrosse.
Gilmartin joined the Columbia staff after a two-year stint as assistant strength and conditioning coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with former Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano. While with the Buccaneers, his main focus was designing and implementing rehab programs for injured players. Gilmartin specifically worked with Darrelle Revis, Da'quan Bowers and Davin Joseph. He was also responsible for helping prepare and update the Bucs' in-season weight training program and worked with the team nutritionist.
Gilmartin, a NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, is a 1989 graduate of the University of Massachusetts and holds a bachelor's degree in management.
