Women’s Basketball Announces 2014-15 Schedule
NEW YORK – A 28-game regular-season slate awaits the Columbia women’s basketball team for the 2014-15 season head coach Stephanie Glance announced this afternoon. The Lions are prepared for a challenging list of opponents, including three who competed in the post season a year ago, and will entertain 16 inside Levien Gymnasium.
The Lions will open the upcoming campaign with a trip to the west coast. Columbia tips off at the University of San Francisco Friday, Nov. 14 before visiting San Jose State Sunday, Nov. 16. From the Golden State, the Lions head back east to open its home slate by welcoming Lafayette to Levien for a midweek matchup Wednesday, Nov. 19.
Later that week, Columbia will travel upstate to Stony Brook to take on the Seawolves Friday, Nov. 21. The Lions return to New York City for seven-straight non-conference contests over a three-week span including three the week of Thanksgiving.
On Monday, Nov. 24 Columbia will play host to Rhode Island. Two days later, on Thanksgiving Eve (Nov. 26), the Lions will entertain Bradley before Kennesaw State comes to Morningside Heights Saturday, Nov. 29.
The home stretch continues with University of Massachusetts Lowell (Dec. 3), UMBC (Dec. 5) and local foe LIU-Brooklyn (Dec. 7). Following a two-week break for finals, the Lions wrap-up its homestand against Portland State Sunday, Dec. 21.
After the holidays, Glance and her squad return to action Wednesday, Jan. 7 by hosting Fairleigh Dickinson and will conclude non-conference action at NJIT Monday, Jan. 12.
Columbia opens the Ancient Eight’s “14-game tournament” with a home-and-home series with its Empire State Rival, Cornell. The Lions make the trip to Ithaca Saturday, Jan. 17 before the Big Red travels to the city the following Saturday, Jan. 24.
The last weekend of January starts the Lions’ longest road trip of the season as Columbia visits Yale (Jan. 30), Brown (Jan. 31), Princeton (Feb. 6) and Penn (Feb. 7).
The four-game road swing is mirrored by four-straight contests at home, as the Lions return to the friendly confines of Levien for matchups against Harvard (Feb. 13), Dartmouth (Feb. 14), Brown (Feb. 20) and Yale (Feb. 21).
The next weekend will see Columbia head to Hanover, New Hampshire for a showdown with the Big Green Friday, Feb. 27, before traveling to Cambridge for a battle with the Crimson Saturday, Feb. 28.
The Lions close their regular season in the Big Apple with games against the Quakers and Tigers March 6-7.
