NEW YORK - Senior linebacker Ray Pesanello and junior quarterback Brett Nottingham have been elected the 2014 Columbia Football captains, as voted by current team members.

"We have always believed in the team choosing their own leadership," Pete MangurianPatricia and Shepard Alexander Head Coach of Football said.  "From a coaches standpoint, we believe the team got it right. In addition to being good players, Brett and Ray exemplify strong work ethic, discipline and consistency.  We believe they represent our teams character, and we look forward to working with them on an ongoing basis to improve and strengthen our team both on and off the field."

Pesanello has played in 20 games in his Columbia career, including all 10 as a junior.  Nottingham, a transfer from Stanford, was injured in the second half of the Lions' season opener vs. Fordham last season.  Nottingham missed the remainder of the 2013 slate.

Captains are voted on by the team at the end of training camp.

The Lions beign the 2014 campaign by hosting Fordham on Saturday, September 20, at 12:30 p.m.
