Todd Gilcrist begins his fourth season on the Columbia Football staff after he was hired in March 2015 to coach the running backs. Gilcrist will enter his second year as Columbia's wide receivers coach in 2018.

Known for his positive, high energy approach and coaching acumen, Gilcrist has already made his mark at Columbia as the Lions’ wide receivers coach. Columbia’s 2017 wide receiver unit emerged as a team strength as the sophomore duo of Josh Wainwright and Ronald Smith combined for 109 receptions, 1,438 yards and 12 receiving touchdowns. A First Team All-Ivy League selection in 2017, Wainwright set a school-record for most receiving yards in a season with 1,001 and ranked among national leaders in receptions per game (No. 6, 7.8, 78 total), receiving yards per game (100.1), receiving yards (1,001) and No. 24 in receiving touchdowns (eight). Despite seeing action in only seven games due to injury, Smith finished with 31 catches for 437 yards and four touchdowns and set a school-record for most receiving yards in a game with his 236-yard, 11-catch and two touchdown performance at Princeton on Sept. 30, 2017. In addition, Kyle Castner made a switch from quarterback to wide receiver and in one year became a starter, team captain and caught 24 passes for 286 yards. Additionally, several other receivers emerged and stepped up in crucial moments of the season including Emerson Kabus and Kaleb Pitts.

As Columbia’s running backs coach from 2015-16, Gilcrist oversaw a running game that has made a resurgence. In 2016, running back Alan Watson earned Second Team All-Ivy League honors after he rushed for 627 yards on 133 carries (4.7 yards per carry) in leading the Lions rushing attack. The 2015 season saw senior Cameron Molina earn First Team All-Ivy League honors after rushing for 805 yards and four touchdowns on 204 carries. Molina ended up leading the conference in rushing yards during Ivy League play.

Gilcrist arrived at Columbia after spending the 2014 season at Carnegie Mellon as the program’s wide receivers coach, while also overseeing video editing and recruiting. The Tartans accumulated 1,872 yards passing and 13 receiving touchdowns.

Prior to his arrival at Carnegie Mellon, Gilcrist served as the wide receivers and assistant strength and conditioning coach at Thiel College, Pa. in 2013. In his one season at Thiel, the receiving corps saw a spike in offensive production, posting 1,455 yards receiving and 14 touchdowns in a run-heavy offense. The 14 receiving touchdowns marked the most since the 2008-09 season.

Gilcrist began his coaching career in 2012 at Maine Maritime Academy where he worked primarily with the defensive backs and returners.

A three-year member of the University of Pittsburgh football team (2009-11), Gilcrist contributed primarily on special teams and played both safety and wide receiver. He was a member of the 2010-11 Big East Champion Panthers and played in three consecutive bowl games. He played his first two seasons of college football at Duquesne University.

Gilcrist is a 2012 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Arts degree in media and professional communications.
