NEW YORK – The Columbia women’s basketball team took time away from the court on Wednesday night as they welcomed Cat Andersen, founder of Food of the Goddesses and the #GoddessApproved Chef Challenge, to Morningside Heights to help raise awareness for the fight against all women's cancers.
Partnered with the Kay Yow Cancer Fund®, Food of the Goddesses is a blog dedicated to following a healthy and fabulous lifestyle. This fall, Andersen has created the #GoddessApproved Chef Challenge which invites chefs from across the world to #Cook4Kay by creating delectable, creative, healthy dishes with cancer-fighting ingredients. Once a chef prepares a dish that meets the #GoddessApproved criteria, all donations from the event go towards the Kay Yow Cancer Fund® in support of the fight against all women’s cancer.
“I met with the Columbia women’s basketball Team to explain how the #GoddessApproved Chef Challenge ties right in with Kay Yow’s mission to, not only raise money for research, but also to provide direct help to people who don’t have the money to pay for the medical procedures they need to fight their cancer battles," said Andersen "Providing ways to help people who don’t have the means hits a personal chord with me and I wanted these student-athletes to understand how unique and powerful the Kay Yow Cancer Fund is."
With the team all wearing pink to show their support for the fight against breast cancer, the Lions joined together for dinner on Wednesday night as Andersen shared her story and the reason behind the #GoddessApproved Chef Challenge.
"It was inspiring to watch how the team dove right in, head first, with their support and enthusiasm for this new route to raise money and awareness for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund," added Andersen. "They are not only some of the brightest young women I’ve ever met but also some of the most compassionate, creative and humorous! It’s clear they believe in this cause whole-heartedly and I’m honored to have them now on the #Cook4Kay Team! “
Throughout the season, the Lions will be promoting the #GoddessApproved campaign on social media and ask fans to help the cause by clicking here.
“We are so thrilled to support Cat and her #GoddessApproved mission to raise awareness and support the Kay Yow Cancer Fund,” said Interim Head Coach Sheila Roux. “The Kay Yow Fund is something that is near and dear to our hearts and Cat’s passion is something that we can all strive for. As a team, we a fortunate to have support around us every day and we want to share that support with others and make sure they know they have someone to turn to as well.”
