LAS VEGAS - Juniors Garrett Ryan and Tyrel White will advance to the second day of wrestling at the Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas.

White won his first two matches of the day to find himself in the quarterfinal round for a showdown with the No. 2 seed in the in the 165-pound bracket, Michigan’s Logan Massa. With a spot in the semis on the line, White was held off by Massa in an 8-2 loss.

Earlier in the day, White won his first two matches, defeating Logan Kernin from Bucknell by a 3-2 score in the first match, and Air Force’s Alex Lopouchanski, 5-4, in the round of 16. Tomorrow, White will take on Ohio State's Cody Burcher in the Consolation Round of Eight.

Ryan did not have an easy start to the tournament, having a first round matchup with the top seed, Wisconsin’s Connor Medberry. Although Ryan stayed aggressive throughout, Medberry sent Ryan to the consolation bracket with an 11-0 loss.

The next two matches for Ryan were impressive, as he picked up pins against West Virginia's Brandon Ngati and Cal-Bakersfield's Alex Encarnarcion-Strand. In the evening session, Ryan topped Purdue's Tyler Kral, 7-1, to advance to a day two match with Stanford's Nathan Butler.

Dan Reed made his way to the evening session with a pair of wins to start the day. The junior topped Cal Poly’s Joshy Cortez with a pin at 7:34 in the opening match, before dropping a 7-4 decision to Wisconsin’s Andrew Croane. Reed then came back to top Zach Kelly from Bucknell, 8-5, to move on to the consolation round of eight.

Against Minnesota’s Fredy Stroker, Reed was unable to get anything started during a 9-1 loss that knocked him out of the tournament.

In the lighter weights, Alec Kelly and Jacob Macalolooy both earned consolation bracket wins at 133 and 141, before ultimately dropping their second matches of the tournament.

Wrestling will get under way at 9 a.m. on Day Two.
