NEW YORK - Columbia field hockey senior Meredith Kalberer was named one of four Division I College Player of the Year by the Field Hockey Club of South Jersey last month. The awards ceremony was held at the Crowne Plaza in Cherry Hill, New Jersey and recognized high school players, coaches, and college players for the 2016 fall season.

The award is given to a player who has been coachable, has impacted their team in a positive way over the past four years, and has been a leader and an asset on their team.

"It was a great honor for me to be chosen as one of the college players of the year by the Field Hockey Club of South Jersey," Kalberer said. "Especially when there were so many great college players in my graduating class. I was very proud to represent my high school as an alumni and to represent Columbia University and the Ivy League. It was great to return to the place where I began my career and it truly reminded me why I've loved playing field hockey for so many years."

Kalberer is the second Columbia player to receive the honor. Gabby Kozlowski '13CC received the honor four years ago.
