All-Time Dual Series: Bucknell leads, 7-3

INSIDE THE SERIES: Bucknell got by Columbia, 24-15, the last time these two teams dualed, in what was the season finale for both the Lions and Bison in 2016. In the 10 times Columbia and Bucknell have met on the mat, the Bison have a 7-3 edge.

LAST TIME FOR THE LIONS: After losses to No. 9 Cornell and Princeton in the prior two duals, Columbia had a chance to get back on the right track against Penn, last Saturday.

The Quakers came out firing, winning the first three bouts in a dual that started at 174 pounds. Garrett Ryan broke through with a 25-10 tech fall at heavyweight, starting the first of four straight wins for Columbia. Johnson Mai got by Jeremy Schwartz, 5-3, at 125, before Alec Kelly's first round pin of Carl Antrassian sent the match into a 14-14 tie.

Jacob Macalolooy gave Columbia a 17-14 lead, narrowly missing a major decision with his 8-1 victory at 141. With Penn earning victories in the 149 and 157 pound matches, the Quakers held a 21-17 lead, as Tyrel White needed bonus points to force a tie. White would ultimately get the 8-4 victory over Joe Velliquette, but it would not be enough as Penn held off Columbia, 21-20.

CLOSING STRONG: Returning NCAA qualifiers White and Ryan have impressed in recent matches, looking poised to make a run to St. Louis for the 2017 NCAA Championships.

White has been victorious in seven of his last eight matches, going 4-1 against Ivy League foes in that span and 5-1 against EIWA opponents. Ryan posted wins of six of his last seven bouts, with four of those victories having bonus points attached, and one over No. 17 Ray O'Donnell from Princeton.

ABOUT THE BISON: Bucknell has posted an impressive 11-4 dual record, including an 8-1 record in EIWA matches.

Victor Lopez (157) and Tyler Smith (141) are returning NCAA qualifiers for the Bison, and have both impressed this season. Smith, the No. 17 ranked wrestler at 141, is 24-6 this season, including 12-3 in dual matches. Lopez, the No. 14 ranked 157-pounder, is 22-5 and has matched Smith's dual meet record.

Recent wins for the Bison include a 22-16 triumph over Army on Feb. 12, and a 33-7 victory over Binghamton on Feb. 10, which came during the Bison's current nine-match winning streak.

NEXT TIME OUT: With the dual meet season coming to a close on Friday, the Lions have a couple weeks off before traveling back to Lewisburg for the 2017 EIWA Championships. Bucknell will play host this year to the event, which gets under way on Friday, March 3, and concludes the following day.
