CHANDLER, Ariz. — The Columbia field hockey program saw 17 individuals on the Zag Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I National Academic Squad. The honor is given to student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher throughout the first semester of the 2016-17 academic year.
Additionally, first-year Maaike Blindenbach was named a Scholar of Distincton for achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.9 or higher.
Last week, the Lions earned Academic Team Award with a team GPA above 3.0. This marks the 14th consecutive year Columbia earned the distinction.
“As an Ivy League program, we take great pride in the fact that you can excel at the highest levels in the classroom and on the pitch,” head coach Caroline Nelson-Nichols stated. “We are extremely proud of all the hard work our young women do and are incredibly honored to receive this award from the NFHCA.”
A total of 74 programs earned the distinction this year, including all eight Ivy League programs.
