Ivy League Release

PRINCETON, N.J. - A trio of wrestlers from Columbia have cemented All-Ivy status, announced today by the Ivy League.

Garrett Ryan was a first team selection, while Tyrel White picked up second team honors, and Jacob Macalolooy was an honorable mention pick.

Ryan, the EIWA heavyweight champion, only dropped one Ivy League contest, posting two major decisions and one tech fall against Ancient Eight foes. The Scottsdale, Arizona, native awaits Central Michigan's Newton Smerchek in the first round of the NCAA Championships, which get under way on Thursday. Ryan is 26-7 on the season, and the No. 16 seed at the NCAAs, as he's a first-team selection for the third time in his career.

White, a second team honoree, will join Ryan at the NCAAs, when he takes on Luke Zilverberg from South Dakota State during the pigtail round of the 165-pound bracket. The junior went 4-1 against Ivy League foes, with the only loss coming in a 3-1 match to NCAA Qualifier Brandon Womack from Cornell. This is the third time White picked up All-Ivy recognition, as he was an honorable mention pick his first two years.

For Macalolooy, a 3-2 record in Ivy League matches nets him all-conference honors for the first time in his career. The Union City, California, native took the podium at the EIWA Championships for the first time in his career, claiming eighth in the 141-pound bracket.
