DENTON, Texas—No. 17 ranked Kansas defeated the Columbia women’s tennis team 4-0 Saturday in a neutral site matchup at North Texas’ Waranch Tennis Center. The dual match, Columbia’s seventh against a nationally ranked team this year, was its second on a three-match spring road trip.
Kansas took a 1-0 lead when it captured the doubles point as the nation’s No. 50 ranked team of Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum and Nina Khmelnitckaia defeated Columbia’s Alexandra Solovyev and Adi Milstein 6-1 and Kansas’ Anastasia Rychagova and Maria Toran Ribes won a 6-2 decision over Columbia’s Sarah Hu and Renee Ren.
Kansas then won three straight singles matches to seal the victory. No. 74 ranked Rychagova won a No. 1 singles match over Solovyev 6-1, 6-2, Kansas’ Maria Toran Ribes followed a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Milstein at No. 3 singles and Nina Khmelnitckaia sealed the win with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Rima Asatrian at No. 4 singes.
First-year Ali Pollack was leading her No. 3 singles contest before the match ended.
Kansas improved to 8-4 on the year.
Columbia (3-9) is back in action on Sunday at No. 26 ranked TCU at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. First serve on Saturday is at 1 p.m.
