NEW YORK – The Columbia track & field teams will take a short trip to the Metropolitan Championships on Friday and Saturday, while the Lions will also compete at the Ocean State Invitational in Providence this weekend.
The Mets meet is hosted by Rutgers, with field events taking the stage on day one, before a more comprehensive meet will get under way Saturday. On Friday, the Lions have four athletes competing, as Hunter Hasley takes part in the hammer throw, Robert O'Brien and Abigail Sharkey participate in the pole vault, and Alexis Turley-Young gives a go at the Javelin.
On Saturday at Rutgers, the sprints will be featured, with the men and women having multiple entries in the 100m and 200m. The women’s team also has an entry in the 4x100m relay, with a combination of Aminat Iriafen, Shalon Conley, Mimi Bain, Anna Williams, and Turley-Young likely to compete.
Brown Stadium plays host to the morning session of the Ocean State Invitational, but the evening session will be held at Providence College, where most of the Columbia athletes will run. The men have 10 athletes in the 800m run, with the Indoor Heps winning team of Robert Napolitano, Josiah Langstaff, Sam Ritz and Alek Sauer among the entries.
After this weekend, Columbia travels to both the Virginia Challenge and Larry Ellis Invitational on April 21-22, before the historic Penn Relays get under way on Thursday, April 27.
