SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Columbia heavyweight rowing team had a solid second day at the IRA National Championships. All three crews earned spots in the third finals, which will take place tomorrow. The lightweights will also be back in action with the varsity eight and coxed varsity four racing in the grand finals.

In the varsity eight, the Lions led nearly wire-to-wire to win Semifinal C in 5:50.316. Columbia was in control most of the way, but FIT made things interesting with a strong final sprint and pulled within two seats at the finish line.

The second varsity eight placed second in Semifinal C (5:58.745), just behind Wisconsin who surged past the Lions just after the 1,000-meter mark. Columbia also had to hold off a late final surge from Syracuse to take runner-up honors.

Columbia's final race of the day featured the varsity four, who placed second to Holy Cross, finishing in 6:35.870.
