AKRON, Ohio - Columbia rising senior Garrett Ryan picked up the 125 kg title at the University Nationals in Akron, Ohio, over the weekend.

Competing in the University Freestyle division for NYC RTC, Ryan won all six of his matches, including a 14-4 defeat of Michael Hughes from Hofstra (Blue & Gold RTC) in the final. The Scottsdale, Arizona, native topped Cory Daniels (Tar Heel Wrestling Club/UNC) by a 10-0 margin in the semifinal, after a quarterfinal win against Andrew Dunn (SERTC/Virginia Tech), 5-1.

Ryan was dominant in his six wins, allowing only a total of eight points while scoring 59 in the tournament.

A large number of Columbia wrestlers competed for the NYC RTC in Akron, mostly taking part in the University Freestyle division.

Other highlights included Dan Reed winning four matches at 70kg, JP Ascolese doing the same at 65kg, Grant Fetchet picking up three wins at 74 kg, while Andrew Psomas, Donny Donnelly, and Tyrel White all earning a pair of victories in the 80 kg bracket.
