NEW YORK — The 2017 Columbia University volleyball schedule was released on Monday. The 23-match slate features nine home dates, including The Big Apple Battle, which the Lions will co-host with LIU Brooklyn, September 15-17.

Columbia is coming off a 14-10 record last season to earn its most wins since 2012. The Lions finished third in the Ivy League at 9-5, matching the program record for Ivy League victories with teams from 2011 and 2012. It included the first 3-0 start to Ivy play in program history.

The 2017 season gets underway Friday, September 1, in the nation's capital at The Pentagon Tournament. The Lions serve things up at 3 p.m. that afternoon against Air Force. Saturday, Columbia will battle Georgetown and The Citadel. All three matchups will mark series firsts.

The following weekend, Sept. 8-9, Columbia travels to the University of Rhode Island for the Art Carmichael Invitational. The Lions open up the tournament Friday afternoon with their first meeting since 2009 against Marist. Columbia plays twice on Saturday when it takes on Northeastern and host URI.

The Big Apple Battle is set for the following weekend and features Columbia, Fordham, LIU Brooklyn, Marist and St. Francis College. The Lions open the home season Friday, Sept. 15, with a 7 p.m. match against Fordham. Levien Gym will host three tournament matches on Saturday, highlighted by the Lions taking on St. Francis at 6 p.m. Columbia concludes the tournament on Sunday at LIU Brooklyn.

The 2017 Ivy League season begins Saturday, Sept. 23, at Cornell. The Lions play their first five league contests on the road, visiting Dartmouth and Harvard, Sept. 29-30, before bussing to Yale and Brown, Oct. 6-7.

Columbia returns to Levien Gym for five straight league matches. The stretch begins Friday, Oct. 13, when Penn visits the Big Apple at 7 p.m. The first half of the Ivy League schedule rounds out with defending champion Princeton on Saturday at 5 p.m. The five-match homestand comes to a close with games against Cornell (Oct. 21), Harvard (Oct. 27) and Dartmouth (Oct. 28).

November begins with Columbia's final road trip of the campaign, visiting Princeton on Friday and Penn on Saturday. The regular season concludes the weekend of Nov. 10-11 when the Lions host Brown and Yale. Senior Night is scheduled for Saturday against Yale at 5 p.m.
