BURREY, B.C – Junior Danielle Buttinger from the Columbia field hockey team secured a gold medal with Team Ontario at the U23 Canadian National Women's Championship last week. Ontario downed British Columbia Rams, 5-0, in the gold medal contest.

"It was great to take all the skills that I have learned here with Columbia (and head coach Caroline Nelson Nichols) and put them to good use," Buttinger stated. "It was fun to be back playing with my younger sister Emily (who plays field hockey at Boston College) for the first time in two years. It was a unique experience playing with and against a blend of players from the NCAA and the CIS (Canada's University Athletic Association). And, of course, I have to give a huge thank you to my parents for always being my biggest supporters."

Buttinger’s squad went 2-0-1 in pool play before claiming a dominant 9-0 victory over Alberta in the semifinals. The Lions’ forward netted a pair of goals off of penalty corners in an 11-0 romp against Alberta to close the round robin portion of the event.
