NEW YORK — Columbia volleyball head coach Brie Katz announced the hiring of Iain Braddak as an assistant coach on Thursday. Braddak was most recently the head volleyball coach at Smith College in Northampton, Mass.

“Iain’s energy and drive are a great fit for Columbia, and his ten years of coaching, teaching, and leadership experience make him an asset to our coaching staff and an awesome mentor for our student-athletes,” said Katz, who enters her fourth season as head coach. “I’m thrilled to welcome Iain to our volleyball family.” 

Braddak spent the 2015 and 2016 seasons as the head coach at Smith College. Prior to Smith, Braddak was the head coach for the 2013 and 2014 seasons at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. He led Merchant Marine to a combined 32-14 (.696) record in two seasons, including a 20-8 (.714) mark in 2014. Braddak also served as the head men’s coach at Culver-Stockton College (NAIA) in 2012. He earned his first collegiate coaching position as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Springfield College, in 2010.

Alongside his coaching experience, Braddak has taught at all four of his collegiate stops since 2010. His teaching experience includes sport psychology & graduate level motor learning at Smith College, sport psychology at the Merchant Marine Academy, as well as athletic administration and sport marketing at Culver-Stockton. 

Braddak holds a USA Volleyball Program Level 2 coaching accreditation and is a regionally certified official with USA Volleyball. He is a member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), and was recognized in 2014 as a National AVCA 30 Under 30 award recipient. 

Braddak graduated with a Bachelor of Science in physical education / health education from Springfield College in 2010. He went on to earn his Master of Science in sports performance and advanced level coaching from Springfield in 2012.
