NEW YORK—Columbia Athletics invites all alumni, friends and family members to campus this weekend as Columbia University will host its annual 2017 Homecoming weekend.


“Homecoming weekend is a celebration event for our great university and athletics program,” Campbell Family Director of Intercollegiate Athletics & Physical Education Peter Pilling said. “It’s a great time for all of our students, student-athletes, alumni, family members and fans to come out, show their Columbia support and enjoy all of the planned events this weekend.”


Highlighted by the annual Homecoming Football game, scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at Robert K. Kraft Field at Lawrence A. Wien Stadium (corner of 218th & Broadway Ave.) against Penn, Columbia will host a total of six athletics events this weekend at both Dodge Physical Fitness Center and Baker Athletics Complex. The Columbia women’s swimming and diving team competes in a scrimmage against LIU Brooklyn at (Friday at 5 p.m., Columbia’s field hockey team hosts both Penn (Friday at 7 p.m.) and defending national champion Delaware (Sunday at 1 p.m.) and the Lions’ volleyball team plays matches against Penn (Friday at 7 p.m.) and Princeton (Saturday at 5 p.m.).


Columbia enters a Homecoming Game with an undefeated 4-0 record for the first time since the 1996 season. It gets back into Ivy League play with a 1-0 record after defeating Princeton 28-24 on Sept. 30. Defending Ivy League co-champion Penn is 2-2 overall and 0-1 in Ivy League play.




In addition to the athletics events, Columbia University has planned a variety of alumni and fan-friendly events. The Columbia College Alumni Association will sponsor its annual Lunch Under the Big Tent and Homecoming Carnival Saturday prior to the football game beginning at 11 a.m. On Friday afternoon from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m., students and fans of all ages are invited to attend a Pep Rally for the while the Columbia Football Team prepares for Saturday’s game with a walk-through on the South Lawn at 5:00 p.m.

Pep Rally, South Lawns and Low Plaza, Morningside Campus

Join the vice presidents of the four undergraduate student councils for a Homecoming Pep Rally, hosted in partnership with Columbia Athletics and Columbia Dining. Be a part of the official walk through with the football players and enjoy a birthday celebration for Roar-ee the lion, as well as other fun and games.


5 p.m.

Football Practice/Walk-Through on South Lawn, Morningside Campus

Watch as the Lions prepare for Penn at their weekly Friday game preparation



5 p.m.

LIU Brooklyn vs. Columbia Women’s Swimming & Diving Scrimmage, Uris Pool

Watch the Lions as they compete against LIU Brooklyn in their first scrimmage of the year. Admission is free.

6:30 p.m.

Penn vs. Columbia Field Hockey Game, Columbia Field Hockey Venue

Watch the Lions field hockey team play Penn in a key Ivy League contest.

Penn vs. Columbia Volleyball, Levien Gymnasium

Watch the Lions volleyball team as it takes on Penn in the first of two weekend matches. Admission is free.

Bring the family to Roar-ee’s Fan Zone! The carnival atmosphere offers fun and games for fans of all ages. Admission to Roar-ee’s Fan Zone is free with football game ticket or valid Columbia student ID.

Lunch Under the Big Tent, Columbia Softball Field, sponsored by Columbia College Alumni Association
Enjoy a pre-game barbecue buffet lunch hosted by the Columbia College Alumni Association. Each ticket includes you an all-you-can-eat lunch, dessert, soft drinks and admittance to the Homecoming Carnival. Cash bar is also available.


11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Homecoming Carnival, Columbia Softball Field, sponsored by Columbia College Alumni Association
Bring your friends and family to participate in face-painting, balloon-making, magic, games, arts and crafts, a bounce house and more. Lunch and bar will close at 1:30 p.m. and the carnival will remain open until 3 p.m. Admission to the Homecoming Carnival requires a ticket to Lunch Under the Big Tent. A separate ticket is required for admission to the football game.


11 a.m. Columbia Football Players Club Pre-Game Brunch, Milstein Hospitality Pavilion, Campbell Sports Center
Football alums and donors are invited to attend an annual pre-game brunch in the Campbell Sports Center.


11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Free Archery Clinic (North end, Rocco Commisso Soccer Field)
Learn how to shoot an arrow from the 2017 National Champion Columbia Archery team. For ages 8-18. No experience necessary and no equipment needed.


Noon Pre-Game Picnic Area
