NEW YORK—Columbia Athletics achieved unprecedented participation levels at Columbia’s Giving Day 2017 as the department raised a record $3.174 million on a total of 4,644 gifts, Campbell Family Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Peter Pilling announced on Friday.

The $3.174 million figure recorded over the 24-hour-event on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 surpassed the previous Columbia Athletics fundraising record of $2.7 million set in 2016. Columbia University as a whole raised $15,616,036.

“We want to thank everyone who contributed to Columbia Athletics yesterday on Giving Day,” Pilling said. “The money raised allows our student-athletes to compete at the highest level and goes to benefit all 800 student-athletes, all 31 varsity sports programs, our facilities and resources and all of our club and intramural sports programs. No matter the dollar amount, every gift counts. Because of the outstanding support we have here at Columbia, we were able to achieve our goal of $3 million.”
