PRINCETON, N.J. - Beto Carrillo from the Columbia men's soccer team has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week, announced today by the league's office.
In a windy downpour on Sunday against Yale, Carrillo found the net in the first half on what ended up being the game-winning goal in the 1-0 contest. Blake Willis sent a long pass from midfield up to John Denis, who had one touch to Carrillo which was enough for the first-year to put it away from the right side of the pitch.
The goal for the Tyler, Texas, native was his first of the season, as he already has three assists this year. Denis added his first career assist in the process, as he now has points in the last three contest for the Lions.
Columbia (8-2-3, 3-1-0 Ivy) is back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 1 when Sacred Heart visits Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium in a 7 p.m. match.
