BOSTON - The No. 3 lightweight rowing team turned in another solid performance in as many days, but could not sneak by No. 4 Harvard in the varsity eight race, finishing second between the Crimson and Georgetown. The second varsity eight came through with a thrilling win for the Lions' lone win of the morning.

The varsity eight hung with the Crimson, who upset No. 1 Cornell yesterday, the entire way. Harvard jumped out to a slim lead, but Columbia stayed within striking distance and surged to within two seats with about 500 meters to go. However, the Crimson made one last push and separated in the final 250 meters to earn the win by just about a length.

The Lions' second varsity eight found themselves behind by a length halfway through its race, but started to turn it on in the third quarter of the course to make it just a three-seat deficit. Down the stretch, Columbia edged ahead in the final 30 or so strokes and picked up a one-second victory.

The day started with a runner-up finish from the third varsity eight. The Lions were topped by Harvard by six seconds, but finished ahead of the Crimson's fourth and fifth varsity as well as the Hoyas' third varsity crew.

Next up, Columbia will host the Dodge Cup regatta next Saturday, April 14, against Penn and Yale at Overpeck Park.
