NEW YORK – Columbia track & field alumna Nadia Eke and senior Akua Obeng-Akrofi are currently representing Ghana at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Queensland, Australia. 

Eke, a 2015 graduate of Columbia College, is taking part in the triple jump final at 7:35 p.m. local time on Tuesday. She visits Australia with a season best of 13.93m in the triple, which is an almost half-meter improvement on her outdoor school record from her time at Columbia. A four-time All-American as a collegiate, Eke also tallied eight Ivy League titles between the long jump and triple jump during her career.

Obeng-Akrofi impressed during the first round of the women’s 400m in Queensland, clocking a personal best 52.44 in her opening heat. The senior qualified for tomorrow’s semifinal at 9:16 p.m. local time, where she will run in the third heat. Along with the 400m, Obeng-Akrofi will take part in the 4x100m relay for Ghana, which is slated for 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 13. So far this Outdoor Season, Obeng-Akrofi has competed at both the Florida Relays and the Penn Challenge, and is coming off an Indoor Season in which she was crowned the Ivy Heps 400m champion for the second straight year.
