NEW YORK - The streak keeps rolling on for the No. 15 ranked Columbia men's tennis team, who got by No. 29 Harvard today, 4-1, at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center. With the win, the Lions move to 14-3 overall and 3-0 in Ivy League play, with another home match this weekend on deck against Dartmouth.
Columbia was forced to come back today after dropping the doubles point against the Crimson. The top pair of Jack Lin and William Matheson were defeated by Kenny Tao and Logan Weber, 6-2, before Michal Rolski and Adam Ambrozy evened the doubles point with a 6-4 win against Grant Solomon and Christopher Morrow. Harvard went up 1-0 when the No. 3 doubles match was claimed by Andy Zhou and Robert Wrzesinski, 6-4.
Trailing 1-0 against the only Ancient Eight team to defeat Columbia since 2012, the Lions were able to pick up four straight-set victories to avenge last seasons loss in Cambridge.
Austen Huang evened the score at 1-1, as the first-year played in the No. 6 match and defeated Andrew Ball, 6-1, 6-4.
The No. 2 match was the next to finish, when the No. 51 ranked Tang knocked on Zhou, 6-4, 6-1. Matheson was the next to finish, cruising in the second set after a tiebreaker win in the first gave him a 7-6 (1), 6-2 win. Ambrozy was then able to finish things off, topping Wrzesinski 7-5, 6-3 for the 4-1 team win.
Tomorrow at 1:00 p.m., the competition continues as Dartmouth visits the Dick Savitt Tennis Center. The Big Green come in at 17-5 (3-1) after a 4-2 win today at Cornell.
