LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Columbia softball senior Taylor Troutt earned NFCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region accolades when the association announced its 389 Div. I honorees on Thursday. The Ivy League Player of the Year was a Second Team selection at second base.
Troutt is the first Columbia softball player to earn All-Region honors since Alyssa Rodia was named to the Third Team in 2014. Her selection is the fourth in program history, joining Hall of Fame pitcher Allison Buehler ‘03CC, who made the Second Team in both 2001 and 2002. The Mid-Atlantic region includes 36 schools from portions of the America East, ACC, Atlantic 10, Big South, CAA, Ivy, MEAC and Patriot League.
Troutt led the Ivy League and broke the program’s single-season records in batting average (.455), on-base percentage (.507) and slugging percentage (.797). Her batting average ranks seventh in Ivy League history and is currently No. 8 on the year in the NCAA. The senior slugger also boasted a top-25 slugging percentage and top-30 on-base percentage in the NCAA, along with top-15 marks in Ivy League history in both categories. Troutt racked up 56 hits, 15 doubles, nine home runs and 36 RBIs, all of which also led the Ivy League. Her league-leading averages were even better against conference opponents, where she hit .500 with a .538 OBP and .871 slugging percentage to go with a league-best 35 hits, 11 doubles and 23 RBIs. The native of League City, Texas, put together an on-base streak of 24 consecutive games from March 11 – April 21 and ended her senior season with 15 multi-hit and 10-multi-RBI games. She was named Ivy League Player of the Week following the season finale at Cornell and was also named to the Weekly Honor Roll six times. She wrapped up her Columbia career No. 2 all-time in total bases (265), home runs (24) and RBIs (99), while ranking fourth in home runs (24).
Troutt became the first Ivy League Player of the Year in the Columbia softball program’s 19-year history earlier this month. She is the first Lion to earn one of the Ivy League’s top postseason awards since Jackie Adelfio was named Pitcher of the Year in 2003.
All of the All-Region honorees now become eligible for selection to the 2018 NFCA Division I All-American squads. The 2018 NFCA Division I All-America teams will be announced at approximately 5 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, May 30, via NFCA.org.
