NEW YORK – The No. 1 Columbia lightweight rowing team will take aim at its second national title in three years at the IRA Championships this weekend, being held June 1-3, on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, New Jersey. Friday morning features the preliminary heats followed and the lightweight finals will all be held on Sunday.

The Lions enter the weekend as the top seed after claiming the gold medal in the varsity eight as well as the Jope Cup as overall winners at the EARC Sprints. Columbia will send the V8 as well as a coxed and straight four crew to the regatta. Head coach Nich Lee Parker was honored as Ivy League and EARC Lightweight Coach of the Year, while the varsity eight achieved Ivy League Championship, All-Ivy League and EARC Crew of the Year status.

Last season, the Lions placed sixth in the grand final of the varsity eight and fourth in the varsity four, snapping a four-year streak of medaling at IRA’s.
