Second-Half Scoring Spurt Pushes Lacrosse Past Bryant 19-11

NEW YORK - Three players combined for 19 points, as Columbia scored four unanswered goals late in the second half to cruise to a 19-11 win over Bryant at Robert K. Kraft Field.  Columbia improved to 6-6, while Bryant fell to 3-9.

Rachael Ryan scored the second of her three goals at 21:54 in the second half to give Columbia a 13-8 lead, but Bryant battled back with two consecutive goals to cut the lead to three, 13-10.  Holly Glynn started Columbia's scoring run with an unassisted shot at 19:12 and Gabrielle Geronimos scored three goals in just under three minutes, including one assisted by Brittany Shannon and another aided by Ryan to give Columbia a 17-10 advantage and put the game away for the Lions.

 

Columbia held a 10-6 advantage at the break.  The Lions scored five of the game’s first seven goals to take a 5-2 lead with 14:28 remaining in the first half.  Lauren Olsen got things started for the Lions with an unassisted goal 41 seconds into the game.  Glynn followed with back-to-back goals before Gabrielle Geronimos connected with Frances Callaghan and Olsen scored her second goal less than 30 seconds later at 14:28.

 

The Bulldogs used a pair of free position goals to pull within one (5-4) with 11 minutes to play in the half, but Columbia scored five of the next seven to close out the half including two apiece for Glynn and Shannon and one by Ryan.

 

Karlee Blank replaced Emma Mintz in goal after 18:56 minutes of play.  Mintz finished with four saves and was responsible to four goals, while Blank finished with eight saves and allowed seven goals.

 

Taylor Gattinella continued to dominate the draws, winning a team-high four while Callaghan had a team-high four groundballs to go along with a pair of goals. Geronimos had a game-high seven points (4 goals, 3 assists), Glynn (5 goals, 1 assist) and Ryan (3 goals, 3 assists) had six points apiece, and Olsen (3 goals, 1 assist) and Shannon (2 goals, 2 assists) finished with four points each.

 

The Lions (6-6, 0-5 Ivy League) have a week off before they travel to Cambridge, Mass. on Saturday, April 18 to face Harvard.
