Columbia University Cheerleading
Written By: Columbia University Athletics Release: 07/07/2006 Add This

Columbia University Cheerleaders have been a staple of Columbia Spirit for several decades. This co-gender team assists in the preservation of Columbia's rich traditions with cheering, dancing, and stunting. They perform at all home football and men and women's Basketball contests as well as other events on campus. The Columbia University Cheerleaders also perform at community service events.

Spring tryouts for spots on the 2009 Columbia Cheerleading squad will be held on Saturday, April 18 at 10 a.m. in the Blue Gym in the Dodge Fitness Center. Please be dressed to cheer, and bring a current physical and proof of insurance.

Tryout elements:

Required elements include jumps, cheers, fight song performance, and stunting. Women may also be asked to perform a short cheer dance routine. Men must demonstrate sufficient strength for partner stunts.

Tumbling is not required, but is factored into the final score. We strongly recommend at least a back handspring with spot.

Tryouts are open to all students of Columbia University, including graduate students.
