NEW YORK – The Columbia track & field teams wrapped up the regular season this weekend, competing at both the West Point Twilight Meet on Thursday, and the IC4A/ECAC Championships on Saturday and Sunday.
At Army this past Thursday, a pair of personal bests and two more season bests occurred for Columbia.
The men had Alek Sauer clock a 1:49.77 in the 800m to take sixth, while Solomon Fountain joined him with a season best in the 1,500m at 3:48.81. Columbia also won an event when Dominic Dyer crossed the line first in the 5,000m at 15:10.27.
The women at Amy found similar success, with Annie Fanta and Jillian Murray putting up a pair of career bests. Fanta took third in the 1,500m at 4:25.52, just ahead of Libby Kokes in fifth at 4:25.88, while Murray clocked a 2:08.79 in the 800m for sixth and a PR, following closely behind Bianca Alonzo, who was fourth in 2:08.22.
At Saturday and Sunday’s IC4A/ECAC Championships hosted by Princeton, the men’s team had a first place performance from Lucky Schreiner in the 5,000m. A week after taking second in the same race during Outdoor Heps, Schreiner was first this time around, taking the tape in 14:09.88.
Akua Obeng-Akrofi led the women’s team, taking second in the 200m with a season best at 23.65. Other top performances included Grace Campbell finishing fourth in the high jump at 1.66m (5-5.25), matching Erin Melly’s place in the 3,000m steeplechase, when she clocked a personal best 10:21.00. The 4x400m relay team was also a highlight for the women, when Carlita Taylor, Sydney Groom, Sydney Petersen, and Betty Jackson took sixth in 3:47.28.
The entries for the 2018 NCAA Track & Field East Regionals in Tampa, Florida, will be announced later this week.
