HENLEY-ON-THAMES, England – The 2018 IRA National Champion Columbia lightweight team is slated to compete at the Henley Royal Regatta from July 4-8. The Lions, who will be making their fourth appearance at the world-renowned event in the past six seasons, will split up the varsity eight into two crews of four and compete in the Visitors Challenge Cup and the Prince Albert Challenge Cup. Several members of the undefeated second varsity eight will join the group as well.

Columbia will head overseas this week to begin training in Barcelona before moving on to Henley to continue preparations. The Lions have raised more than half of their goal of $65,000 to fund the trip. To make a donation, please click here.

Previously, the Lions' lightweights have raced at the Henley in 1929, 1971, 1998, 2000, 2003 (varsity four only), 2013, 2015 and 2016. Columbia's varsity eight reached the semifinals in the Thames Challenge Cup in 1929, reached the quarterfinals of the Thames Cup in 1971, the semifinals of the Temple Challenge Cup in 2015 and the quarterfinals of the Temple Challenge Cup in 1998, 2000 and 2016.
