LOUISVILLE, Ky. — For the third consecutive season under the direction of head coach Brie Katz, the Columbia volleyball team earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award. A total of 149 NCAA Division I programs were honored.

The AVCA Team Academic Award, celebrating its 25th year, is the single largest award offered by quantity of schools, players and coaches honored. The award honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

Eight different Lions graced the Dean’s List throughout the 2016-17 season, including the entire senior class of Sarah Gurbach, Zoe Jacobs, Kesi Neblett and Cassie Wes, junior Anja Malesevic, as well as first-years Grace Campbell, Kate Hefner and Kalie Wood.

The 2016-17 AVCA Team Academic award recipients included 833 teams across NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, two-year colleges, NCCAA, collegiate men, college beach, girls high school and boys high school. The number of team award winners broke the previous year's total of 764 to set an all-time high.
